Bass is my main instrument now, I've been playing for 2 1/2 years and I've gotten very good at it
With the bass, I reckkon that if you have varied musical tastes, you will be inspired to play funky and complex basslines, rather than the oh-so-common indie bassline of pedalling a single note for an hour and a half
I also play the piano, cba with it at all, I have a grade 1 thingy in it, simply because i switched teachers, had to start all over again, and stopped getting lessons because I missed important classes. Well not really, the teacher was a perv.
I can play the drums fairly well, but i seem to get bored of them very easily, once I've had a little jam.
When I was 7 I had guitar lessons for 2 years and I quit, I'm a frankly pathetic guitar player, Ineed the space formy fingers, like the bass
I dont agree that bassists are failed guitarists, although interestingly I kind of am one, but still, they are two differnt instruments, and I prefer the sound of the bass to the sound of a guitar
In terms of stuff, I have:
A fender bass (boring plain cheap)
Microkorg synthesiser
Yamaha midi gay keyboard with the atlantis to interzone dj shit on it
I have a half size guitar I never use
And I suppose i have an epiphone sg but my sister bought that and its been hidden away for a while

OH MY GOD! 2 things:
I play bass as my main instrument....have been for 3 years. I agree COMPLETELY with what you have just said! people think the bass is a watered down version of the guitar that just plays stuff you cant hear. but you only have to delve a little further into youtube or some classic jazz and funk records to find out that that DEFINITELY isnt the case!
and i have a microkorg too! i love it, especially when i put it through distortion pedals and put a bass sound through a filter!
other than that, I play piano, grade 5. may be doing grade 8 soon...people should listen to the amelie soundtrack by yann tierson. thats what inspires me!
Primarily I was an electric guitarist but to be honest I lean towards acoustic. I'm also teaching myself piano right now, which is taking quite some determination. I also have two ukeleles hich I haven;t mastered and a theremin, a mini accordion and one of late of the pier's bears are coming plank-hitting drumsticks which hit me in the face at a gig, fell into my arms and thus became mine.
I want to DJ, I am crap at it though. Not an instrument per se but y'knowww
Man, I really wish I could make mixes like 2manydjs and so on, but I have absolutely no idea how. I just love those sort of mixes though.
I taught myself to "play" bass - I can't do fancy shit, I just read tabs which I'm fairly competant at. I also have a keyboard (some Yamaha one) but I'm considering getting a microKORG or something along those lines because I prefer functional synth playing to fancy piano playing. I never liked it when kids showed off their ridiculous musical talents at school and I have no plans on becoming one of them. I had lessons at primary school and could play stuff like The Entertainer and Amazing Grace, but I much prefer just working out a synth riff from a band's song.

Electric Guitar Grade 5.Currently playing a shitty Les Paul
copy but Iam watching and waiting for a Hofner 169 to appear somewhere so I can snap it up.
I would really like to learn keyboard/piano.
Piano wise I would like to play like Matt Bellamy,Damon Albarn and Rachmaninov.
Keyboard wise I would say bands like Add N to X,Late of The Pier,These New Puritans,Spider and The Flies and perhaps Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip because of the beats.
What kind of keyboard/sampler is a good for me,
I know "music" well because of guitar so I can improvise
its just the technological side of it that I would have to learn about.
i got grade 5 piano grade 7 trumpet and play bass guitar
but i am in no way musically talented i absoloutly suck at composing my own stuff, its quite frustrating
Ha, skill! fellow trumpet player! i dunno what grade i'm up to but I've been playing for years, I'm not bad..
I also play bass, a bit of guitar, synths/keys, that's it.
I have:
Some random precision bass copy, based on the fact I liked the colour of it and it was my first bass which I needed to buy kindof quickly and was too skint for a Fender.
The use of an epiphone les paul and an ibanez acoustic.
but my favourite (musical) posession would have to be my inverse keyed microkorg, of course
twice a year my old school holds a rock night, and all the proceeds from one of those rock nights went to 22 ukeleles and 1 flying v ukelele, which none of us was allowed to use.
